Speak and you shall be heard!

Twitter has been listening to its users. Over time, the favourite micro-blogging social media platform has been getting feedback from users about the lack of power features that meet their needs.

Well, change is about to come because the platform is about to give the people what they are looking for through Twitter Blue.

What is Twitter Blue?

Twitter Blue is the new monthly subscription that gives users exclusive access to features and perks that will take their experience on Twitter to the next level.

For now, the subscription is only available to users in Australia and Canada. Until they roll out the service globally, we can only have a peek at this premium feature.

Twitter tells TechCrunch that it’s only starting Twitter Blue with the select markets of Canada and Australia to determine whether the existing features will meet the needs of users who are looking for more customization over their Twitter experience and to gain new insights about other ideas that can be applied for future iterations of Twitter Blue.

Perks and Features

Those who sign up for a Twitter Blue subscription will get a set of features and perks that include the following:

  • Bookmark Folders

Wish you could save Tweets for future reference, but in a more organized way?

Bookmark Folders enables you to manage the Tweets you’ve saved accordingly so that you can find them easily and efficiently when you need them.

  • Undo Tweet

We’ve all been through the dreaded typo or the forgotten tag/info.

The Undo feature allows you to retract a Tweet after you have already sent it by providing a countdown timer that allows you to tweak your post within the time limit (5-60 seconds) set before it goes out for people to see. The platform has specified that it is not an Edit button.

Think of it as a mini grace period to improve your tweets.

  • Reader Mode

Do you think threads are too difficult to go through?

Reader Mode can turn those thread posts into easy-to-read text, making it easier for you to keep up and go through all the latest content seamlessly with less noise.

  • Additional Perks

Subscribers will also get access to perks, such as customizable app icons for their device’s home screen and fun color themes for their Twitter app, and will have access to dedicated subscription customer support.

As the initial phase rolls, Twitter will be listening to feedback and building out even more features and perks for subscribers over time.

Does this mean Twitter won’t be free anymore?

According to Twitter, a free version is not going away anytime soon, and never will.

Fortunately, this subscription offer is simply meant to add enhanced and complementary features to the already existing Twitter experience for those who want it.

Although the new subscription service offers features that are incredibly helpful, we’re not entirely sure how we feel about paying to access features that could have been free. However, we could see how this can meet the needs of users who are looking for more customization options to add to their Twitter experience.
