Looking for a job? Trying to hire new employees? What if we told you that you can start job hunting and hiring through social media?

No, we’re not talking about LinkedIn. We’re talking about TikTok!

TikTok is testing a job application tool that allows its U.S. users to directly apply with video resumes to companies like Chipotle, Target, and Shopify.

The pilot programme is called TikTok Resumes. It was inspired by content that has organically popped up on the platform, like #CareerTok.

Nick Tran, Global Head of Marketing at TikTok, said: “TikTok Resumes is officially open and accepting TikTok video resumes. We’re humbled to be able to partner with some of the world’s most admired and emerging brands as we pilot a new way for job seekers to showcase their experiences and skillsets in creative and authentic ways. #CareerTok is already a thriving subculture on the platform and we can’t wait to see how the community embraces TikTok Resumes and helps to reimagine recruiting and job discovery.”

There are more than 30 companies signed up to accept resumes for TikTok Resumes, which lasted until July 31.

Users will have to create a video resume, post it to TikTok, and then send that video to recruiters through the app.

TikTok Resumes can be found in the app through #TikTokResumes and at www.tiktokresumes.com as well as accessible through a number of entry points, including the TikTok Discover page. The hashtag has over 310 Million views to date!

Our thoughts? We think this is an amazing initiative by TikTok that is the perfect example of providing value for its users; especially since Gen Zs and Millenials make the majority of its user demographic!

According to Statista’s TikTok survey as of 2021, users aged 20 to 29 years accounted for 22.4 percent of the video-sharing app’s user base on the Android platform in the U.S. alone.

We love to see social media platforms such as TikTok evolve according to the needs of the younger generation as some of them may see LinkedIn as too professional or limiting.

It’ll be interesting to see if this takes off beyond TikTok and becomes an option in the job hunting process – whether by seekers, employers, or both.
